Elements of Art:  

Each ArtScapades lecture begins with a  brief overview of the seven elements of art that artists use when composing a piece of art – Color, Line, Texture, Value, Shape, Form, and Space.  Each element is illustrated using a representative work of art.

Timeline of Art:  

In The Italians, ArtScapades explores the styles of the great Italian artists who worked in the 15th and 16th centuries, and laid the foundation for the development of western art.

In The Italian Renaissance, ArtScapades continues to look at Renaissance art, and brings in women artists who were highly talented but under appreciated.

In The Northern Renaissance, ArtScapades explains how as Renaissance art styles moved through northern Europe, they were adapted to local customs.

In Dutch and Flemish Baroque, ArtScapades details how art moved forward led by the Dutch Realism School of the 17th century, leaving religious themes behind.

In Italian Baroque, ArtScapades continues to explore Baroque art, as the artists injected theatrical realism into their works.

In Spanish and French Baroque, ArtScapades looks at how the Spanish and French translated baroque themes in their cultures.

 Artists: 

Approximately fifteen works per artist are discussed including iconic works plus those that illustrate significant trends and events in their lives and careers.

In The Italians, ArtScapades chronicles the life of five artists, Giotto, Paulo Uccello, Sandro Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo Buonarroti.

In The Italian Renaissance, ArtScapades looks at Raphael, Titian, Tintoretto, Sofonisba Anguissola, and Sister Plautilla Nelli.

In The Northern Renaissance, ArtScapades details the lives and works of Jan van Eyck, Hieronymus Bosch, Albrecht Dürer, Hans Holbein the Younger, and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.

In Dutch and Flemish Baroque, ArtScapades explores Peter Raul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jan Vermeer and Michaelina Wautier.

In Italian Baroque, ArtScapades presents Annibale Carracci, Caravaggio, Artemisia Gentelleschi and Bernardo Strozzi.

In Spanish and French Baroque, ArtScapades covers El Greco, Diego Velázquez, Nicolas Poussin, Georges de La Tour, and Charles Le Brun.
